In the Thick of a Whippoorwill Heart

Coming in January!

When HAL WINSTON left his abusive mother behind on the day of his high school graduation, he never planned to return home. Nineteen years later, a call from the hospital turns this plan on its head. Hal has a decision to make, continue to turn his back on his Alzheimer’s-stricken mother or reenter her life.

Hal commits to facilitating her hospice care, but it does not take long for him to realize that what he has taken on, has the potential to destroy him on all levels, emotionally, physically, and financially. Also, he might be falling in love with MOLLY OWENS, a psychic medium his mother calls a witch and tried to run over with a stolen riding lawn mower.

Molly smells like honeysuckle vines in the summer sun, has a plethora of peculiar sayings that Hal calls, Mollyisms, and is often the only bright spot in the bubble that he’s found himself trapped inside of. But it is inside this bubble, between the layers of forgetting, in the misremembering, in the glimpses of the abusive alcoholic who raised him, that Hal might finally be able to heal his childhood wounds.
